How do you rescue a relationship? How do you convince him you had a match made in heaven? Keep reading to discover a  relationship rescue guide.

There is an old adage. It takes two to tango. The success or failure of a relationship can seldom be attributed to only one person. It takes a commitment on both parties to make or break a relationship.

A relationship rescue guide may offer any number of points. Points which could be used in keeping a relationship going or to bring it back on track.

After having walked in the shoes of two failed marriages I think I can speak with some authority on this issue.

I think some of those relationship guides would be no judgment. No condemnation. No criticism. These three culprits are related brothers and sisters. They are very destructive to any relationship.

They are usually brought on by low esteem. It is done in an effort to build the guilty one up at the expense of the another one. It is seldom seen how destructive this and this practice comes with many years of practice.

I just became aware of a form of judgment I have been doing for years and never thought of it as judgment. "He or she is fat." "They are stupid." "Oh ya, right. Like you think you know everything." All of these and anything akin to them are judgments. They can be and perhaps are often muttered under the breath.

Big Hint. If you say these thing often enough and long enough they will finally make their way out of your mouth and into the heart of the one you say you love. Your relationship will suffer more than you can imagine.

I think awareness should be included in a rescue guide. To see what affect your actions have on your partner. Do they make them feel good or bad. Are you building up or tearing down. If you are tearing down and making your loved one feel bad repentance and apologies are in order.

Along with apologies comes not committing the offense again. When you say you are sorry, you have to commit to changing.  Otherwise, you don't mean it.

Then I would think another factor to include in any relationship rescue guide would be forgiveness. Right next to do not judge is forgive 70 times 70. Or keep right on forgiving. We all make mistakes. We all error.

However forgiveness does not mean to keep putting yourself in harms way. If you are being abused, you owe it to yourself to remove yourself from that relationship and environment.

If you are doing the forgiving it also means you do not bring up the issue ever again. True forgiveness is letting it go and forgetting as much as you can. For all intents and purposes the offense is dead. Do not make your relationship or partner suffer because you want to hold something over their head for your own aggrandizement.

Trust is an absolute necessity in every relationship. It should be given without question at the beginning of every relationship. If trust has been violated the above factors come into play. Apologies, forgiveness and no judgment. But now trust has to be earned, where once it was and should have been freely given.

If trust has been violated, take your time and rebuild it. As a word of warning, you can hardly ask your partner to keep trusting if trust is repeatedly violated.

If trust and forgiveness cannot be given from the heart with the whole heart it is best to express your regrets at not being able to make the necessary commitment. If 100% commitment can not be made there is no need to stop a divorce or save the relationship. Simply move on with your life and let your partner do like wise.

While this will break your heart right now, it may be the best thing that could have happened to you.  Whatever went wrong in this relationship, your soul mate is still out there.

Relationships are not something to settle for. They are much to important to your survival. Wait for something beautiful, fulfilling and uplifting. Trust me. It will be worth the wait.

Justin,

I approached this article with trepidation, because your title led me to believe this was about boyfriends and girlfriend breaking up (many boyfriend/girlfriend situations should probably end when they do) but your article talked about committed relationships and your advice is good. I am sure that most of us could benefit from it.

I loved your last line.

Thanks,
